Question
Dear Dr,
Five days ago following a very stressful office encounter with a staff member at work a cobweb appeared in my eye. I went to a retina surgeon who advised of a small tear, which he repaired using a laser in his office. The following day this dr. advised that the repair was solid and held well. However, the floater (cobweb) is still there and it's very annoying. First, can anything, without risk, be done to eliminate this visual (cobweb) disturbance? It's driving me crazy! Second, can I continue to wear soft contact lens? I noticed three weeks ago, following contact lens use for 15 hours, that my eyes were very dry and it was difficult removing the lens at days end. Did this difficult removal, in part, perhaps cause the tear?
Thank you so much for the courtesy and time you give to this forum and for answering my questions.
Answer
Dear Raymond,
These are non pathological floaters which will settle with time. It is due to disturbance in the 'jelly' or fluid of the posterior part of the eye that causes this to be seen as a cobweb.
Yes, it is very annoying, but it only settles down with time.
There are some things that may help.
