Question
I use laptops a lot. Any time I sit behind my laptop my eyes begins to pain me giving me occasional slight headaches. this does not happen only when i use my laptop but when i walk in the sun, view the screen of my cell phone and even watching tv. i visited an eye clinic recently and they told me i needed photochromic lense mean while a friend of mine who also has knowledge in this area tells me i need an anti refletive lense. I am confused, what do i do, or what is your suggestion.
Answer
Dear Patrick,
The photochromic lenses make sense when moving from a dark to bright area like outdoors and indoors. Also, for the PC, using anti reflective lenses if you are working in a brightly lit room again has no meaning.
What you need is specific computer glasses (+0.75D usually) to be given to you if not having any spectacle powers, or same adjusted to your current prescription.
You may read more about this on www.shroffeye.org under computer vision syndrome.
This is to avoid an eye strain and also a shift towards myopia which computers may cause.
Hope this helps,
An optometrist should be able to precribe the glasses to you.
