disciform herpetic keratitis in 10years girl

Question
My daughter of 10 has presented at age 4 a corneal scar on her left eye and has been prescribed first fluorometholone eye drops for a while. Then as the corneal scar reappears each every 3 months,  acyclovir eye drops and taken orally has been added, and then framicetyne sulfate/dexam?thasone eye drop.  The scar becomes now thicker and covers almost the corneal area, the left eye is starting to cross and a new ophthalmologist diagnosed a disciform herpetic  keratitis with a  new vascularizations feeding the corneal  scar. It is likely that she is losing her left vision, is there any solution for this from your side we can resort to? She is now receiving fluorometholone acetate eye drop and acyclovir ointment for tend days. Yours sincerely

Answer
Dear Ando,

If the definitive diagnosis is disciform keratitis, she needs aggressive topical steroid medications +/- oral acyclovir treatment.

Further, the exact treatment she needs right now depends on the stage of disease process, which can be assessed only after an evaluation.

Another issue is that she is in the 'amblyopic' age group, hence she needs agressive treatment and a probable early penetrating keratoplasty if the scar is in the visual axis).

A good corneal specialist would help.

Hope this helps.
