Question
Hi! I have a 15 year old son who was diagnosed with a cataract(in one eye only) at age 7. His cataract covered 85% of his lens, so unfortunately his lens was removed when he was 7. He wears a contact 6 days a week and sometimes glasses. Recently I've noticed that his eye wanders a bit. My question is can these patients ever receive a permanent implanted lens? What does the future hold? Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
You need to consult with a pediatric ophthalmic surgeon to see if your son is a candidate for a secondary intraocular lens implant, corrected his vision without a contact lens or eyeglasses. When you do, ask about the pros and cons of such a procedure: Always understand the risks prior to any procedure so you can fully understand the potential outcome. Hope this helps you.
