Question
Hi, I am 63 and wonder if herbs and/or supplements are a good idea for better eye health? If so, what to look for ingredient wise?
Thank you. Sandy
Answer
The biggest deal these days is to try and maintain macular health. While many other eye disorders are fixable, treatments for macular problems remain difficult and imperfect. What is recommended for macular health are:
- omega three fatty oils - found in fish, fish oil, flax seeds, etc.
- lutein - found in brightly colored fruits and vegetables, and most especially kale.
- Zeaxanthin - " " " "
- antioxidants in general
- vitamins C and E
- zinc and copper in small amounts.
You can find ready-made vitamin formulas for macular health - some in the regular drug stores and others in the health food shops.
