if i am a -0.50 in both eyes does that mean there is something wrong with my eyes ?

Yes, your eyes aren't perfect. you are a little bit nearsighted, technically called myopia. It's not a medical issue, only an optical one. When you wear the -.5, you should see well, just like having to focus an otherwise good camera to get a clear photo.
