RK incisions opening after 12yrs

Question
I'm having extreme pain and difficulties with old RK incisions "opening" for no apparent reasons. It started about two years ago when my left eye became very irritated and painful which lasted for about 8 days. It has since started occurring about every month or two. My optometrist just discovered the "incision gapping" about three months ago during one of the flare ups. I do not rub my eyes and am very careful not to ever touch them in any way. The doctor gave me a thin contact lens to wear during flare-ups but they only help to a small degree.

I can hardly take this much longer.... it makes my life absolutely miserable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bill C

Answer
Dear Bill,

Sorry for the delayed reply.

This can happen. However, this needs to be examined if it is a wound gape or something else like an erosion on the cornea.

A good corneal specialist will be the right person to visit.

Let me know what they say. You can write directly on dranand@lasikindia.in
