Question
hello,
my 2 years old daughter was born with a small cataract in her left eye.doctor said that it will not affect her vision.is that true .is there any treatment need
with respect,
Answer
That depends upon the size of the cataract. Actually, many people are born with a very small cataract that happen as the lens of the eye is developing in the womb. These generally do not affect vision. I am pretty sure your doctor would have recommended removal if he thought the cataract was big enough to affect vision because it is critical that a child's eye receive proper stimulation (be able to see clearly) during their early years. It a large cataract were left in the eye until the child is older, the eye would never learn to see properly. Was it an EYE doctor who said it was ok to leave the cataract in? If so, I would not concern yourself with this any further. If it was a pediatrician or a general family doctor who discovered it, I recommend taking your child to an eye doctor for evaluation.
