Question
My daughter, Venice Starr, was born October 14th 2009 8:57 am 6lbs. 14oz. 19 1/2 inches long, she was born full term and all of the doctors said she was perfect and healthy so I'm wondering why they didn't catch on to her left eye being so much smaller than her right eye? I mean all around smaller. The iris, the eyeball. I took her to the pediatrician on the 23rd of october hoping to receive some answers but she told me there was just fluid in the eye still and to keep warm eye compresses on it which I did but it seemed to stay shut more when I did that rather then let it open up on it's own. I have an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist on tuesday. I did research myself and everyone keeps telling my stop looking on the internet your going to worry yourself because I myself have already diagnosed my daughter with microphthalmus and although I have no degree but it clearly is the only thing it could be. Do you have any information on this? I have pictures to show you what she looks like.

Dear Carissa,
I know that you are worried and grasping any information you may get along the way regarding your daughter's diagnosis.
Micro ophthalmos needs an eye doctor to diagnose this as it also needs to be determined regarding the vision in that eye.
Do not conclude your self.
In some children initially there sometimes occurs a disproportion in growth of the eye ball wherin one appears smaller, however, the vision maybe fine.
In some cases, it only requires a cosmetic correction later.
I do not want to go into details of microopthalmos etc unless we are sure what we are dealing with.
