kaliedescopic vision

Question
QUESTION: hi

i had a rather strange episode, my vision in right eye started to go progressively worse, by worse i mean, it felt i was looking trhough a kaliedscop,e wavey and watery looking with lines, it meant that i couldnt focus on the computer screen for 15 minutes or so. ive experienced this episode in the past , sometimes in both eyes sometimes in jhsut one,

should i go to the opticians and get them to check it out, one freind said that i should get a dilate eye exam to check for any abnormalities, is that absolutely neccessary? it did scare me however as my vision was very poor for those few moments, btw, i wear glasses for shortsighteness.

ANSWER: Dear Sir,

Do not be scared, but it seems that a dilated eye check with retina being checked is necessary.

please see a good eye doctor for the same.

QUESTION: thank you for answering, do you have any idea what it might be? It was quite hard to explain to you what it was , I have just had an eye test a few months ago and didnt mention anything to them then, should i book myself in for another test and explain the problem just as i explained to you?

ANSWER: Dear Sir,

It is a possibility that this could be an aphthalmic migraine. Usually associated with fluctuating blood pressure. So, when you visit in routine checks, your BP seems fine, but under stress etc it can either go high or low, which results in some people having visual symptoms the kind you describe.

What you need to do is

1. Get your blood pressure also checked immediately when you face these symptoms

2. Also avoid activities which can exacerbate these symptoms ( you can be a bit visgilant with noting what activities were done upto a day earlier)

eg. not to play weekend sports but exercise regularly instead

check if wine (sometimes bad wine) etc or certain foods or drinks cause this.

Trial and error will rule out this and you will know what to avoid if it is an ophthalmic migraine.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Thanks for the answer, that seems to make sense, as the times it has happened i think i have been rather stressed out

is it still worth mentioning it to the opticians and booking in an appointmnet to discuss it and get it tested? i jst dont want to go if its just wasting their time.

Answer
Dear Sir,

You must still get the eyes checked, but I suspect that the test may come normal, but at least the loads off your head...however, just observe the phenomenon and find the trigger factors. Also worthwhile getting a complete physical with checking the Blood pressure.

Hope this helps,
