Question
I had 1. vitrectomy, laser, membrane peel for ROP, VH, rubeosis (may 05) 2. vitrectomy, laser, membrane peel, silicone oil for RD, PVR (june 05) 3. laser to prevend glaucoma (dec 05, jan 06). After 1. 2. 3. my eye was stable with no flashes and a very light stable cataract.
In july 06 i decided to remove the silicone oil to avoid complication in the future (i was 30 at the time). Then in august 06 i had laser for high IOP (52 and 65) and removal for a cataract (august 28) that progressed rapidely (it was very dense). In january 07 my pupil didn't dialate and I started to see flashed. In feb 07 had laser for PCO. I had Homatropine until july 07 and PredForte until feb 09.
Today, my pupil barely dialates, i have micropsia. I'm still seeing flashed and Doctor says it because left over vitreous strands could be pulling or scar tissue could be pulling on the retina.
Is that possible ? Could my eye becoming weaker since it has no oil ?
I regret having removed the oil because those flashes are very stressful everyday and i didnt see some when it was in and Rx was expensive. My vision is the same as after surgery 1. and i have the impression that having all those things damaged my eye (flashed, micropsia) and going back to square 1. I should have left it alone.
Thank you so kindly for your answer.
Answer
Dear Julia,
Your Q unfortunately needs to be addressed by a vitreo retinal surgeon.
However, I know that the prognosis for the conditins you describe are not always positive, but still one needs to exercise them.
So, do not regret your decision.
