eye pain

Question
QUESTION: I am a 18 year old student. just a few days ago, I start to experience a little pain on my right eye if I bend down or if I blink hard. can you please explain this? is this a serious problem?

ANSWER: Dear Andy,

Not serious, but sounds more like a sinusitis pain than originating from the eye.,

Take some steam inhalation and a tablet for cold (over the counter). If there is also visual disturbance, visit a physician.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Dear sir,

thank you for your response.

but, I just realized this morning that there is a little yellow pus on my right eye lid. The size is very small, almost unnoticeable (less than 1mm). However, my eye still looks normal - no swelling or anything -.

I first suspected that it was stye, but in Internet, stye is a red swelling not yellow. If there is a pressure applied on the spot, it is rather painful. This goes the same, if I blink hard or bend down.

what is that exactly? is it dangerous?

If it is really a stye, what should I do? On Internet, it suggests that I should apply a warm cloth on my eye regularly. Is it true?

thank you very much

Answer
Hi Andy,

This does sound like a stye. Yes, the yellow spot is a pustule, usually sterile pus, but can get infected if not taken care of. Usually heat applied frequently to it like hot fomentation helps reduce it and even 'burst it'.

It usually does not require any eye drops as it is self-limiting condition.

However, keep a watch on it and visit an eye centre if it worsens.

Hope this helps,
