Question
My daughter who is 17y.o. has been experiencing anasocoria mostly in the left eye but x's one in the right eye statrting at the end of May. It has occured randomly, never last more then 12 hours. No other S/S, no HA, visual problems, no N/V etc., has only noticed it when someone else points it out to her by their visual contact. I have had her evaluated by her Peds., who consulted with a Nuerologist who ordered a MRI/MRA of which were normal, saw Our eye doctor who found no DX., progress and no optic nerve damage and now has a follow-up with a Ped. Neuro dr. this Wed. Oct. 7th. My question is she is taking Zoloft daily and somewhere I read serototin can cause some anasocoria but can now not find the site to verify. Do you know any thing about this and where I can find info before the 10-07 appt. I have been reassured no major Dx. progess is in effect but curious about the serotonin reuptake effect on anasocoria. Thanks, Colleen Deveau RNC.,BSN
Answer
Uneven pupils are seen in normal population about 20 % incidences.
Ruling out certain reasons like use of some medications, some inherent eye problems etc will determine the cause if any.
Dear Colleen,
In some cases medications could be a predisposing cause. One reason you did not find a link is probably a spell error. It is Anisocoria.

Please let us know if the eye doctor comes up with a specific diagnosis for further suggestions,
Hope this helps.
