Question
My sister has been severely dizzy and nauseas for the past 4 months since changing her prescription glasses. She's lost a ton of weight and can't work now. She has seen numerous doctors (general, ENTs, optometrists, acupunturists, etc.) but no one seems to be able to help her. They've checked her ears, eyes, prescriptions and everything seems fine. She's at her wits end. She found a doctor in Birmingham that specializes in Vertical Hyperphoria but she lives in Southern California. Could this be the cause and is there a doctor in Southern California that specializes in this?
Answer
Without additional information on what testing has been done, this is a difficult question to answer.
In general, a latent vertical muscle imbalance should be relatively easy to diagnose and will not cause the severity of symptoms and signs which you describe.
Symptoms of dizziness, nausea, and weight loss for several months duration require neurologic evaluation including appropriate neuro-radiologic studies.
