Question
My sister has been severely dizzy and nauseas for the past 4 months since changing her prescription glasses. She's lost a ton of weight and can't work now. She has seen numerous doctors (general, ENTs, optometrists, acupunturists, etc.) but no one seems to be able to help her. They've checked her ears, eyes, prescriptions and everything seems fine. She's at her wits end. She found a doctor in Birmingham that specializes in Vertical Hyperphoria but she lives in Ventura County (Southern California). Could this be the cause and is there a doctor in Southern California that specializes in this?
Answer
Hi: Vertical hyperphoria or hypertopia can indeed cause symptoms of dizziness, diplopia (double vision), nausea, disequalibruim, similar to vertigo and can be remedied with spectacle lenses utilizing prisms. Consult an Optometric Physician for this.
Hope this helps,
Dr. Ken
