Prescription Question

Question
Just a simple question. I'm a 44 year old female. Worn contacts for years. I have astigmatism. I am not having trouble needing bifocals that I can tell....(not moving things around to see etc.). I seem to be having trouble lately finding a good prescription that doesn't make my vision worse. I noticed it last year first time. Seem to see better without lenses lately. Here is the first prescription that didn't seem right and this is what we are trying this year...but neither seems right. Is there much difference in these scripts and what's up? Healthy eyes, no problems. MORE PROBLEM ON RIGHT EYE.. How much difference is there in these?

Toric prescription last year. Focus Toric Monthly

Right = BC 8.9 Pwr +.75 Cyl -1.00 Dia 14.5 Axis 090

Left = BC 8.9 Pwr +.50 Cyl -1.00 Dia 14.5 Axis 080 Toric

Prescription this year. Ultraflex Toric Monthly

Right = BC 8.7 SPH +.50 Cyl -0.75 Dia 14.5 Axis 090

Left = BC 8.7 SPH +.00 Cyl -0.75 Dia 14.5 Axis 080

Answer
I wish I knew what you meant by saying you see better without the contact lenses on.  Would that be better at distance or better at near?  That would be a key piece of information because for most people, after age forty, their eyes focus differently at distance than they do at near.  So the script that might work well for distance may not work at near and vice versa.  It is not enough to say you are not yet having any problems reading because the visual system is more complex than that, especially for someone who already has a little far-sightedness in their system ( the +0.75 right and +0.50 left from your last year's Rx)

And, most people with plus in their Rx need more plus every year after about age forty. So I really cannot answer your question directly without more specific information. However, as you ask, no, those two scripts are not very different.

But another factor one must consider is how those toric lenses sit on your eyes.  If a toric lens does not sit just exactly right, the person will not see well.  This is something I would presume your eye doctor would have ascertained before prescribing them.  But sometimes lenses behave differently after you have worn them a while than they did in the doctor's office.  Most eye doctors have a policy where if you are having a problem with their Rx, they will see you for a return visit to figure out the problem at no extra charge for a certain number of days or weeks after the exam.  From your complaint it sounds like you really should schedule a follow-up visit with your doctor, if you haven't done so already.
