Question
Hi, Have recently (9 weeks ago)had a cataract removed and implant inserted in my left eye.
After the operation my vision was clear and sharp in a word excellent. six hours later all sight in the left eye lost, returned to the hospital A%26E and informed that I had hemorrhaged into my eye. Assured that this would clear over the next few days.
The vision has returned but the focus is totally off just like looking through a pair of field glasses with the balancing lens un-corrected. My balance is affected as the ground sways if I look down whilst walking, further to this I can now see the implant in my peripheral vision.
My doctor is having all manner of tests done which this far he says show nothing wrong.
His latest suggestion is a wave scan with a view to laser profiling later.
Would it not make more sense to just re do the operation with a new more suitable implant?
Thanks for your time
Trevor
Answer
Most post-op cataract removal and intraocular lens implants go without complication (95%) however, retinal hemorrhage, retinal detachment, macular edema, and dislodged or tilted IOLs can occur. Your surgeon is a good point to start the process of elimination. Keep in mind healing takes place over time . The same often goes with post -operative blurry vision and complication. Occassionally non-steroidal topical anti-inflammatory eyedrops (NSAIDS) or topical steroids are given until the vision distortion and blurriness dissipates Hope this Helps,
Dr. Ken
