Question:
I live in a tropical climate, but we have a water shortage right now. (never affected my eyes before)
For the past year I have randomly awoke around 5 AM in mornings by what feels like sand under my right eyelid. Last year it happened around 3 times some mornings. I recall having lost a LOT of weight last year(around 20-30 pounds)& had just finished up a complete check-up & blood tests with clean health (except barely borderline high blood pressure). This year, however, I gained all that back plus 10 pounds & started more eye problems. Besides the gritty eye, I started getting styes in the same eye repeatedly, and redness & soreness in it. I don't think I got any infections from anywhere. My eyes are also extremely sensitive to cosmetics now, and I used to be able to do anything to my eyes. Is it age, weight, blood pressure, environment? Or maybe all 4? Its driving me CRAZY. This eye will wake me up and stay in pain watering like crazy for 30 minutes, then go back to normal as I lay there and I fall asleep again. The eye pain won't return again that same morning.
Answer:
Hi. I live in the same tropical climate you do. I would check that eye out. It could be anything; cyst, etc. I don't think it comes with age. Dry eyes do occur perimenopause and beyond but your eyes don't tear much because they're dry, and not just one eye. I would see a specialist. Hope all is well.
