dilated pupils

Question
my 14 year old daughter has large pupils, they have always been like this and are always large, she has very pale blue eyes, i wondered if there was any explanation to this and also could this cause problems if her pupils were ever checked for dilation?

Answer
If pupils suddenly become dilated, there is reason for concern. If, however, your daughter's pupils have always been somewhat dilated, there is no reason for concern. This most likely is a normal physiological pupillary response and may cause increased light sensitivity in bright lights - for which I prescribe UV sunglasses for all outdoor activities. Furthermore, if her pupils are already large, there's probably no reason for further dilation during a routine eye exam.   Hope this helps,
