Question
Yesterday my 21 yr old daughter went to the Optomatrist for a yearly eye exam, and the doctor said that she had a twisted optic nerve. Why would this happen? What effects will this have on her later on? What should we do about this condition?
Thanks,
Gina
Answer
Hi Gina,
The optometrist probably said 'tilted disc' optic nerve. If anything was wrong, it would have been so from birth. There are various grades, but if it was just brought up now it is probably nothing to be concerned about. Just call the doctor and discuss it (though you may need your daughter to give permission due to personal medical info privacy rules). It was probably a "your eye is interesting but forget it" discussion. The condition is stable so if she's OK she'll be OK.
