controlled conscious REM

Question
Since I can remember I have had the ability to shake my eyes from left to right extremely fast on command and was a source of intrigue for all my friends when I was in grammar school. In fear, of not knowing what allowed me to do this and if it was the result of something seriously wrong, my mother asked my Dr. about my eyes, during a routine visit for my myopia, but received little information. I would like to know why I am able to do this and If it will cause latter problems visually for me.

Answer
Dear Brida,

No, this will not cause any visual issues. However, it is not pleasant to do this movement as it is not a natural eye movement.

So, just avoid doing it to show people or intrigue them.

It may give rise to headaches etc, and you will always worry if something went wrong.

if coincidentally something happens, again you may link it to this phenomenon.

Worse, it could become a habit and you may do it unknowingly as well, not a pretty sight!

Hence avoid this on purpose.

ope this helps,

Regards,
