Yellow eyes

Question
I notice for years the whites of my eyes have turned yellow (stronger on the sides). I was afraid it was liver problems but my blood tests came back ok. Then my hair stylist said some people produce a yellow or red pigment in their body naturally (I have dark golden brown hair). Should I have more tests on my liver or could she be correct?

Answer
Hi Heather,

Depending on your age, coloring and exposure to the elements during your life, your eyes can become a little yellowish.  When you see your eye doctor ask them is it looks normal. If your eyes see and feel pretty normal, I would not be too concerned. Everyone's body produces different color pigments and that is why our bodies are made up of many different colorful parts.
