eye vision

Question
my daughter had eye test at school and the results of her eye test was left eye 6/9 and her right eye 6/6 what does this actually mean

Answer
Hi Elaine,

These are numbers of 'visual acuity' and express the level of detail the eye can discern.  6/6 is 'normal vision' so she sees things clearly at the test distance of 6 meters.  6/9 means she has to be 50% closer or the object needs to be 1.5 times as big in order to see the detail of the 6/6 eye. It does not indicate the reason, either medical or optical, for the reduced vision in the left eye.  There are many web sites that will explain it in more detail  6/6 is the same as 20/20 and 6/9 is the same as 20/30 for the other common acuity measuring system of checking at 20 feet if you research those numbers.  It is the ratio of the numbers that matter.

Good luck,
