Question
I was clinically diagnosed with Lyme Disease or some other bacterial type illness this past November. The medication I am now on is as follows; Doxycycline, Azitromycin, Tramadol, Amitrypteline, Nexium, Crestor. I have high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. The issue I am having is that there is always pressure behind my right eye (the severity fluctuates), sometimes pain (when this happens its a stabbing pain), and I have also noticed a very prominent red line (assuming its a vein) in the white part of my eye that starts at the inside corner, goes across to almost the coloured part, and then goes up to under the eye lid, where it branches off into three smaller veins. There is no redness in any other part of my eye. My eye also feels as though there may be some inflammation, although it isn't physically evident that I can tell. I am also having bouts of head pressure and and increase in the eye pressure when I stand from a seated position. Could this be from medication, or do you think something else is going on.
Answer
Hi Ellen:
It sounds to me like you are having sinus pressure aching as a result of sinusitis. a simple head X Ray would be able to image the status of your sinuses. Also you need to rule out elevated intraocular pressures ( a simple glaucoma check). As far as a few dilated vessels on the white part (sclera/conjunctiva), it soundslike a varicosity but not inflammatory in nature and probably does not need any treatment - but it should be looked at by an eye care professional
Hope this helps you out
