Question
I just had eyes dilated - exam -- this was the 3rd time . I don't
know what happens ??? I start feeling - not bad but not right.
It's hard to explain -- little bit of headache - over all feeling
of not thinking clearly & a slite body upset ????? Are these
symptoms usual ???? What is in the drops which would cause a
reaction ????? Am I the only one ?????? Thanks
Answer
No you are NOT the only one. The topically applied eyedrops that produce mydriasis (pupil dilation) are very often utilized in ophthalmic practice, mainly to view the peripheral retina and interenal structures of the eye. These agents, the most common of which are Tropicamide (Mydriacyl), phenylephrine
(Neosynephrine), and cyclopentolate (Cyclogyl) - all of which can cause mild to severe adverse systemic effects.
It is important to remember that the effect of the medication depends upon many factors, such as race, age, and eye color. For example, dilating drops tend to be less effective at the same concentrations in dark-eyed individuals as compared with blue-eyed persons. Most of the side effects are short-lived and temporary. Feel free to discuss this with your doctor however as he may alter the doseage, concentration, or meds used. HOPE THIS HELPS.
