Depth Perception

Question
My husband has a problem with depth perception- he doesn't see in 3 D, and I was wondering if there any treatment he can get as his job promotion depends on this. He was diagnosed with a turn in one of his eyes as a child but didn't wear his corrective glasses then. Thanks

Answer
The answer will depend on the reason for which your husband lacks depth perception. There is such a thing as vision therapy, a program of exercises designed to improve or restore proper vision functioning to those who suffer from a lack thereof.  You will want to see an optometrist who does vision therapy.  Another name for this is a developmental optometrist.  Here is a link where you may be able to locate one in your area:http://www.visiontherapydirectory.com/  If not, you can probably ask your regular eye doctor for a referral.  Sometimes the school nurses will know of local vision therapists as well.

Vision therapy however is more effective when done on a child whose visual system is more plastic than an adult's.  If your husband is motivated and willing to do a lot of work to achieve depth perception, there may be good chance he can get it, but again that will depend on the cause of his problem.
