Question
Respected Sir,
My name is sharjeel Panjwani. i was diagnosd with corneal ulcer about a month and a half ago, for which i received treatment and it was healed, but then about 2 weeks back i developed conjunctivitis an i was told to put blethamide 4 times daily for 5 days. it didnt get beter so then my doctor told me to put decon A which has phenylehrine+antihistamine and also put moxiflxacin and acyclovir. i then went for a referal and the doctor told me to stop everything and jus to put dexapenthanol three times. the redness is gone but i still am experiencing blurred vision in the affected eye. my doctors keep on tellling me that the ulcer was in the center and when it will regress then i will have my hundred percent vision back. so plz tell me if the blurry vision is going to stay there or its going to evade away? if not then wht can be done and also will i be able to wear contats again?
Thank you for your time.
Answer
Infectious keratitis (corneal ulceration) in the central cornea may
cause permanent scarring of the cornea and loss of best corrected
vision.
Based on your history of medications, you have been treated for both
bacterial and viral infections, so it is not clear to me the exact
etiology of the ulcer. Certain types of viral corneal infection are
commonly recurrent.
Contact lens wear, especially extended wear contact lens, is
absolutely contraindicated at this point. If the haze clears
completely, which may take several months; it is possible that you may
be able to wear contacts again. The steroid drops are intended to
clear the haze.
If the haze is permanent and severe you may be a candidate for laser
surgery or corneal transplantation to restore your vision.
