contact lenses

Question
Dr. Ken, I was wondering if you have had any experience with proclear contact lenses and biofinity contact lenses. Is it true that biofinity allows more oxygen in the eye? Is it normal that after wearing contact lenses for a couple of hours, that the eyes get pink or red? Does pink or red eye indicate that something is wrong? Kary

Answer
yes both are good lens choices however oxygen transmission to the eye's structures is just one of many characteristics of contact lenses is necessary for optimal corneal health. For example, the contact lens which has the greater amount of O2 transmission may still contribute to redness. Other equally as important features is water content, thickness, base curve radius, diameter, power, and fitting characteristics. For example a loosely fitted lens or a tightly fitted lens can contribute to and cause, redness, eye irritation, discomfort, reduced wearing time, and variable vision. Solution compatibility and hypersensitive reactions are also quite common and may cause redness as well as dirty lenses.

Hope this helps'   Dr. Ken
