Contact lenses causing dizziness and slight nausea

Question
Hi there,

My name is Brianna and I am 19 years old. I got glasses 3 years ago...but I was told I only needed them for driving to see street signs earlier. I can drive perfectly fine without them, but if I drive someplace new, I don't mix up my O's and my D's from far away.

Since then, I have hardly worn my glasses...I only drive to college and back and to the pet store and back. I kept my glasses in my car if I needed them last minute. But I have not needed to wear them in at least 6 months and rarely before that.

I just got contacts today (a slight new prescription as well). When I put them on, they make me dizzy and slightly nauseated as well. Is this normal and will it go away?

Answer
Dear Brianna,

The lens prescription is usually not exactly the same as glasses, since lenses sit touching your eyes unlike spectacles.

Also the issue of correcting a cylinder plays a role.

If the prescription given to you is correct then it is a matter of adjustment which may take a week or so.

You need to use them for 2-3 hours everyday, stepping up the time of usage along the way till you tolerate them.

If the symtoms continue, it may be best to recheck if the pwers given are correct.

Hope thixs was helpful.
